Open Our Eyes, Lord…

(A Pastoral Prayer)

Out of the darkness of this world and into Your light, O Lord, we have come  to see You:

Persuaded that, in our own sight, we cannot see because of the sin in our lives and the rush of our lives to get where we are going;

Empty we feel, O Lord, at times as we go along life’s path—not seeing, but giving the impression that we see.

Needless to say, we need Your vision today, dear God.

Our lives are touched by grief today; we struggle to find answers to questions of life and death, O Lord.

Understanding has been difficult to come by in recent days; we have talked too much and listened too little.

Remold us, Lord, as we come to see You today; reawaken our spirits to the touch of Your Spirit.

Enlighten our minds as we walk with You on life’s road today, as we talk, as we long to know who You are and where You are going today, dear God.

You are the object of our best thoughts, our best actions; help us to regain our sight of Your vision today, dear God.

Engrave on our longing hearts the desire to see You in every moment of our lives, whether in a service of worship or on the job or in times of leisure, dear Father.

Save us, O Lord, from our selfish ways; bend us to see others along life’s road who need a helping hand and a touch from Your children’s hands.

Lead us, Lord, in the paths that would take us to where You are already working and are bidding us to come.

Overflow in us a sense of the burning within our hearts to know You better and recognize where You are walking.

Renew a right spirit within us, O Lord, for we have sinned against You with our indifference; forgive us, Lord!

Deliver us, O Lord, for we cannot make it on our own!

                                                                    Open our eyes, Lord, we want to see Jesus!! Amen.
