The Importance of Story…

Everyone likes a good story.  We listen to people who have a story to tell even if we don’t know exactly what they are saying.  We like to hear stories.

If we didn’t like stories we would never look at a TV show, for they are telling stories, most of which do not help us much, but we listen.

Sometimes we listen to escape from our own story for a while.  Sometimes we listen to hear that the other person is worse off than we are.  Sometimes we rejoice with the person that has overcome an obstacle in their lives that may be similar in our lives.

For those of us who remember Paul Harvey and his stories on radio entitled “The Rest of the Story,” we listened to his stories because we wanted to know the ending of the story.  We listened because the story seemed important and we became involve in the story itself. We do love a good story.

We are a story-telling people and God is a story-telling God.  He has told us His story through His word and through His son, Jesus. His story came to live among us, as John 1 tells us, “The word became flesh and dwelt among us.” That is the ultimate story.

What is your story?  Learn to tell it! Telling your story “will do you good and help you, too.”
